PROVIDENCE, R.I. - The Providence College men's basketball team (20-10, 10-7 BIG EAST) won a double overtime thriller over Marquette, 81-80, on Tuesday night at the Dunkin' Donuts Center in Providence. Senior Bryce Cotton (Tucson, Ariz.) sunk two free throws with 7.2 seconds left in double overtime to give the Friars their 20th win of the season and first win over Marquette since Jan. 4, 2007.
In the second overtime, the Golden Eagles (17-13, 9-8 BIG EAST) held a three-point advantage (80-77) with 27.9 seconds remaining, before LaDonte Henton (Lansing, Mich.) hit a running jumper with 9.3 second remaining to bring the Friars to within one (80-79). The Providence defense forced a jump ball and held the possession arrow, giving the Friars the ball. Cotton was fouled on the in-bounds play with 7.2 seconds left setting up the final tally.
In regulation, both teams were tied at 41-41 with 12:08 remaining in the game. Providence used an 11-0 run to take a 52-41 lead with 8:45 left, capped by a four-point play from sophomore Josh Fortune (Hampton, Va.). The Golden Eagles gained a one point lead (56-55) following a 15-3 run with 1:46 remaining in the game. Fortune again hit a clutch four-point play to give the Friars a 59-56 lead with 25.6 left on the clock. Marquette tied it again at 59 with three free throw by junior Todd Mayo. Senior Davante Gardner chucked up a half-court shot that went in, yet upon review, was waived off to send the game into overtime.
Gluten is a protein commonly found in wheat, barley, rye and other grains. A gluten free diet is used to treat people with celiac disease, an inflammatory condition in persons who are intolerant to gluten and suffer inflammatory and gastrointestinal side effects when gluten is consumed, leading to damage of the small intestine. It is noted that approximately 10% of people with type 1 diabetes also have celiac disease, which is significantly higher than the population in general. There seems to be no connection with Celiac disease and type 2 diabetes. (19) There is some data in the literature describing benefit of a gluten free diet in preventing T1D in animals and newly diagnosed children with T1D. (20)
The other side of the Diabetes Place Mat illustrates the "Plate Method" of managing a diet for proper nutrition and control of blood sugar and weight. It shows the proportions of each food category that are appropriate for a healthy, balanced diet. The food groups shown on the top half of the Plate Method side are carbohydrates, which affect blood sugar the most - fruit, milk, and starch & bread. These are colored in yellow to distinguish them from the other food groups that don't significantly affect blood sugar (meat, vegetables, fat and free foods). The food categories are shown in proportion to how much of each might be eaten in a healthy, balanced diet. The plate method is a great plan for PWD who have poor math or reading skills, or are non-English speaking. (84)

Italian city-states such as Milan, Florence and Venice played a crucial innovative role in financial development, devising the main instruments and practices of banking and the emergence of new forms of social and economic organization.[92] In coastal and southern areas, the maritime republics grew to eventually dominate the Mediterranean and monopolise trade routes to the Orient. They were independent thalassocratic city-states, though most of them originated from territories once belonging to the Byzantine Empire. All these cities during the time of their independence had similar systems of government in which the merchant class had considerable power. Although in practice these were oligarchical, and bore little resemblance to a modern democracy, the relative political freedom they afforded was conducive to academic and artistic advancement.[93] The four best known maritime republics were Venice, Genoa, Pisa and Amalfi; the others were Ancona, Gaeta, Noli, and Ragusa.[94][95][96] Each of the maritime republics had dominion over different overseas lands, including many Mediterranean islands (especially Sardinia and Corsica), lands on the Adriatic, Aegean, and Black Sea (Crimea), and commercial colonies in the Near East and in North Africa. Venice maintained enormous tracts of land in Greece, Cyprus, Istria, and Dalmatia until as late as the mid-17th century.[97] 2ff7e9595c
